The term chemical recycling describes various processes and services of involved companies. There are different definitions and assessments of chemical recycling. In most cases it describes procedures in which plastic waste of different kinds is decomposed into the chemical ingredients using energy. 

LyondellBasell is planning a plant for chemical recycling of plastic waste in Wesseling, Germany. The plant is expected to have an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year. Source One Plastics, a joint venture of LyondellBasell and 23 Oaks Investments, formed in October 2022, intends to supply the majority of the sorted processed feedstock. Construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2025.
